Finding Support

Admitted applicants to the CS graduate program will automatically be considered by the CS admissions committee for fellowships and teaching assistantships. CS faculty members may, at their discretion, award research assistantships. Students with potential for obtaining a doctoral degree are given priority. It is possible to be admitted without support.

In the fall of 2021, all of the incoming PhD students and selected MS students are supported by fellowships and assistantships.

All incoming and current CS graduate students without funding may seek support from other Purdue departments and offices. Many of our graduate students receive support from other Purdue entities.

CS Teaching Assistantships:

Applicants must be certified for oral English proficiency by one of the accepted methods (TOEFL within last 2 years, IELTS, OEPT.) See details here http://www.purdue.edu/oepp/oept/methods.html .  If you meet one of these, send your proof of certification to Shelley Straley.

CS students needing to take the OEPT should contact Shelley Straley well in advance. Non-CS students should contact their Graduate Coordinator to arrange a test.

Once English certification has been submitted, graduate students wanting to be considered for TAships may complete this application.

Continuing CS graduate students should update their resumes and TA application each semester. Please note that the instructors of courses do not hire or assign TAs. The Assistant Head for Academic Programs is the hiring supervisor who will contact students regarding assignments.

CS Research Assistantships:

Incoming students will be contacted by faculty members interested in extending an offer based on their application. Current graduate students seeking a research assistantship should talk to individual faculty and attend research group meetings.

Internships:

Many of our students find well paying summer internships with our corporate partners.

Other Purdue Departments and Offices:

The CS graduate office will send out notices to CS graduate students regarding graduate assistantships in other departments.

CS graduate students may also contact the Mathematics Department and the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures regarding teaching assistantships.

Positions with Information Technology at Purdue are occasionally posted by supervisors on SSINFO or the ITaP student employment website.

The Libraries Research Department may have openings as well. Please contact the Libraries Human Resources (494-2899) or the hiring supervisor: Michael Witt, Assistant Professor of Library Science, (765) 494-8703, mwitt@purdue.edu

Residence Hall Assistantships:

All CS graduate students may apply for a residence hall assistantship. See

https://www.housing.purdue.edu/campus-living/get-involved/work-with-us/ra.html for information.
