Computer Systems Status


25 September 2020 — scheduled Downtime
Starting at 4p, undergraduate file server (riker.cs) will be shutdown to replace a problematic RAM DIMM. The shudown should take no more than 30 minutes, and be available again by 4:30p During this outage, all undergraduate home directories will be unavailble. This will affect logins for all CS undergaduate students.

25 September 2020 — Unscheduled Downtime
Undergraduate file server (riker.cs) experienced a memory failure which crashed the server. It went down ~10:25a, and was back up ~10:30a. At some point in the near future, the DIMM will need to be replaced under warranty, which will require more down time.

9 September 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
The faculty/staff UNIX authentication server arthur.cs.purdue.edu will be down Wednesday, September 9 for some emergency maintenance starting at 10:30PM. It is expected to be back up by 11:30PM.

This will impact login to other UNIX/Linux systems as well as direct access to services on arthur.

6 September 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
Graduate fille server (antor.cs) and Faculty/Staff file server (madoc.cs) will be down while system updates are installed starting 12a. Downtime will be about 30 minutes.
This was originally scheduled for August 30 but was rescheduled due to issues with the Samba server.

23 August 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
Undergrad servers (data.cs and riker.cs) will be down while system updates are installed starting 12a. Downtime will be about 30 minutes.

11-14 August 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
LWSN and HAAS computer labs will be sporadically available while system updates are installed. Availability will be unreliable.

6-7 August 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
ITaP will be moving a fiber connection for LWSN starting at 11PM on August 6. This will disrupt VOIP phone service for up to 4 hours.

25-26 July 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
ITaP will be rebooting and making changes to the CS network firewall starting at 11PM. Work may take up to two hours.
During this time network connectivity outside LWSN and HAAS will be unavailable.

16-17 July 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
ITaP will be moving network connections for HAAS starting Thursday evening, July 16 and extending until early Friday morning.
WORK TO BE PERFORMED: The ITIS Network Operations Team will be moving the fiber connections for HAAS to the campus distribution routers on 07/16/2020 at 11:00 P.M.
AFFECTED SERVICES: The work will be performed in the TEL and LAMB data centers. Users in HAAS should expect to be without wired and wireless internet during this time. This will not affect HAAS-234 and HAAS-279 Machine Rooms.
SCOPE OF WORK: Sometime between 11:00 PM on 07/16/2020 and 3:00 AM on 07/17/2020 clients of the above listed 'AFFECTED SERVICES' should plan to experience disruption of those services. The expectation is that there will be a single disruption, lasting up to 240 minutes in duration.

15 July 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
Departmental authentication server arthur.cs.purdue.edu will be down for approximately 30 minutes starting at 7:00AM. It should return to service by 7:30AM.

8 July 2020 — Unscheduled Downtime
Departmental file server xinuserver.cs.purdue.edu began experiencing network connectivity issues about 14:43, and lost network connectivity completely at about 16:36. IT staff have been alerted.
The network switch power supply was replaced and xinuserver was back on line as of about 18:43

4 July 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
Departmental file server ban.cs, which provides several programs (ex. MATLAB), will be down for approximately one hour starting at 12a. It should resume to service by 1am.

27 June 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
Departmental file server newbors.cs, which provides several programs (ex. MATLAB), will be down for approximately one hour starting at 12a. It should resume to service by 1am.

23 May 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
The following CS departmental server will have their operating systems update Saturday @10p -
  • print.cs (printing services for all CS hosts)
  • vm[012].cs (virtual machine servers for CS department)

The OS update should take no more than two hours. Printing services and some virtual machines may be sporadically available during this time.

12 January 2020 — Scheduled Downtime
Undergad compute server data.cs will be rebooted at noon due to system updates. Service should be returned by 12:15p.
