Computer Systems Status

11 October 2025 — Scheduled Downtime
Due to new requirements from Purdue System Security, all IT-managed Linux systems in CS will be rebooted beginning at 6AM on Saturday, 11 October 2025, starting with the main departmental fileservers. The remaining servers and workstations will be rebooted later in the day once the main servers are back up.
29 August 2025 — Scheduled Downtime
The undgraduate compute server (data.cs) started exhibiting an issue mounting user home directories the morning of 28-August-2025. This problem has prevented some users from successfully logging in to data.cs.

data.cs will be rebooted at 05:45 29-August-2025 Please save all work and logout before then. Any user logged in, will be logged out without warning.
19 August 2025 — Unscheduled Downtime
Due to a network change that was supposed to be non-disruptive, we lost network connectivity for the department authentication servers from about 13:45 to about 14:45. This caused disruption in services for most department Linux system. Once the problem was corrected, the services returned to normal.

15 May 2025 — Scheduled Downtime
At the end of the 2025 Spring semester, departmental compute server, mc17.cs, will be decommissioned and removed from service. Students should instead use mc18.cs, mc19.cs, mc20.cs or mc21.cs.

NOTE - The hosts listed are primarily for instructional use, and secondarily for research. If research jobs obstruct or hinder instructional jobs, they will be terminated.
24 April 2025 — Unscheduled Downtime
There are campus networking issues that are causing problems with web sites that use the campus single sign-on (SSO) authentication. This is making myCS effectively unusable, or at least very slow to respond.

The problems started around 5AM and are continuing as of 11AM. There is no estimated time of repair.

This was resolved around 12:30PM
18 April 2025 — Unscheduled Downtime
Early today departmental compute server (dahj.cs.purdue.edu) became uresponsive and was rebooted. Upon reboot, it was determined that the boot drive has failed. Working with the vendor to get a replacement. Return to service time is undetermined.

UPDATE - 22 April 2025 - dahj.cs became available at ~2 PM.
31 March 2025 — Unscheduled Downtime
2:40 PM departmental compute server (mc18.cs.purdue.edu) became uresponsive and was rebooted. It was available again by 3:01 PM.
14 January 2025 — Unscheduled Downtime
5:26 PM departmental undergrad compute server (data.cs.purdue.edu) became uresponsive and was rebooted. It was available again by 5:29 PM.
