31 January 2026 — Software Update
-
On Saturday morning the College of Science RADIUS server will
be switched from the legacy backend authentication server to
the current backend authentication server. The RADIUS server
is used by CS Linux servers for SSH 2-factor login
authentication. There should be no change for users who use
their password and 2-factor authentication as described in the
SSH banner
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- - Password-only logins have been disabled * * Use of Duo Mobile, a hardware token, or an SSH key pair now required - - Duo Mobile: Enter your password followed by a comma followed by PUSH * * Token: Enter your password followed by a comma followed by 6-digit code - -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
The only behavior change will be for those individuals still using the legacy BoilerKey PIN in place of their password. Note, this is not the 6-digit one-time passcode generated by tokens or the Duo Mobile app. This is a long-deprecated feature of BoilerKey (legacy 2-factor). It was supported as long as the legacy authentication servers remained in service, but is now being phased out completely because the legacy server certificates are expiring.

Due to a network change that was supposed to be
non-disruptive, we lost network connectivity for the
department authentication servers from about 13:45 to about
14:45. This caused disruption in services for most department
Linux system. Once the problem was corrected, the services
returned to normal.
Any residual problems should be reported to ScienceHelp@purdue.edu
