Computer Systems Status


14 Aug 2021 — System Upgrade
On Saturday, August 14th the operating system on instructional servers mc17.cs and mc18.cs will be upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04. During this time, logins will be unavailable. The upgrades will begin @10p and should finish at approximately @11p. Please save all work/data and logoff before 10p.

13 Aug 2021 — System Upgrade
On Friday, August 13th the operating system on instructional GPU servers cuda.cs and mctesla.cs and graduate student server antor.cs will be upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04. During this time, logins will be unavailable. The upgrades will begin @10p and should finish at approximately @11p. Please save all work/data and logoff before 10p.

11 Aug 2021 — Software change
On Wednesday, August 11th the default CUDA lmod module will be switched from CUDA 10.2 to 11.2. No down time is expected. If you wish continue to use 10.2, you will need to run "module load cuda/10.2".

10 Aug 2021 — System Upgrade
On Tuesday, August 10th the operating system on data.cs.purdue.edu will be upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04. During this time, logins will be unavailable. The upgrade should finish at approximately 7p.

21 July 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
From 06:00a to 8:00a various research networks in LWSN will unavailable for network hardware maintenance. Some CS resources should be considered inaccessible.

14 July 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
From 04:00a to 8:00a various research networks in LWSN will unavailable for network maintenance. This is part of a multi-week migration and this week's networks will have direct impact on most IT-managed Linux machines. Some CS resources should be considered inaccessible.

7 July 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
From 06:00a to 8:00a various research networks in LWSN will unavailable for network hardware maintenance. Some CS resources should be considered inaccessible.

30 June 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
From 06:00a to 8:00a various research networks in LWSN will unavailable for network hardware maintenance. Some CS resources should be considered inaccessible.

23 June 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
From 06:00a to 7:00a CS camera and printer networks in LWSN will unavailable for network hardware maintenance. Some CS resources should be considered inaccessible.

18 June 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
Starting at 7:00a CS package server (ban.cs) will be down for a very brief (approximately 15 minutes) system maintenance. During this time, some network accessible software (i.e. MATLAB) may not be available.

16 June 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
From 12:05a to 1:00a CS networks in HAAS will unavailable for network hardware maintenance. Some CS resources should be considered inaccessible.

1 June 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
From 5a to 7a CS networks will unavailable for network hardware maintenance. All CS resources should be considered inaccessible.

26 May 2021 — Unscheduled Downtime
At 3:35p, GPU server cuda.cs became hung and unresponsive. It was rebooted, and retruned to service at ~4:00p.

15 May 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
Starting at 8:00AM, the file server ban.cs.purdue.edu will have system updates installed. The update is expected to take about 1 hour.

During this time, the filesystems served by ban will be unavailable:

  • /p/p1
  • /p/p2
  • /p/p4
  • /p/p5
  • /p/p7
  • /p/p8
  • /p/p9
  • /p/p15


11-12 May 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
ITaP will be doing a major upgrad on the the Data Depot storage system starting at 5:00PM on Tuesday May 11 and concluding around 11:00PM on May 12.

During this time the RCAC compute clusters will be unavailable.

23 January 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
Starting at 11:59p, GPU servers (cuda.cs and mctesla.cs) will have system updates installed. During this time, both servers will be unavailable. Any jobs running on the servers will be terminated.

17 January 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
CS servers (antor.cs, data.cs, madoc.cs, riker.cs) will have system updates installed from 7:00AM-8:00AM. During this time, most CS resources will be unavailable.

NOTE - this was rescheduled from 16 January 2021 10PM (EST)

12 January 2021 — Scheduled Downtime
CS networks will be unavailable from 6a to 6:30a while networking hardware is replaced. During this time, all CS resources will be unavailable.
