Prof. Gautschi Elected to Bavarian Academy of Sciences

Professor Walter Gautschi of Purdue University was recently elected to the prestigious Bavarian Academy of Sciences. The citation (translated from the German) reads:

"Prof. em. Dr. Walter Gautschi, born 1927, is a professor emeritus of mathematics at Purdue University in West Lafayette, USA. Gautschi, who was born in Basel, is an internationally renowned applied mathematician. His research areas are numerical mathematics, constructive approximation theory, and the theory of special functions. For their computation he is considered the world's leading expert."
