CODO (Change of Major) Requirements

 

Your specific CODO requirements will follow when you entered Purdue University-West Lafayette. This is formally known as your catalog term. Please select the academic year in which you began classes at Purdue for your CODO requirements. (If you need help, you can find your catalog term at the top of your MyPurduePlan worksheet.)

 

Notes:

  • Applications to majors in the Department of Computer Science must be submitted by 5 pm the Thursday of finals week for Fall, Spring, or Summer term. Late applications will not be considered.

  • Applications will be evaluated the week following finals when grades post.

  • Applicants will be contacted by the Department of Computer Science via their Purdue email account regarding the status of their application.

  • CODO decisions are final and may not be appealed.

General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 1 Minimum Credits: 12 Minimum GPA: 2.75
Course Requirements
  • CS 18000 with a grade of B or higher
  • Grade of B or higher in a Calculus course approved to meet degree requirements

Students wishing to receive highest consideration should earn an A- in CS 18000, B or better in an approved Calculus course that we use to meet degree requirements, and have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA

Other Requirements
  • Due to high demand for the CS program and present enrollment in the program, all CODO approvals will be made on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS and will be determined through a holistic review of all applicants.  CODO decisions will be made at the conclusion of each semester. 
  • Students on academic probation will not be considered.
  • All courses for CODO must be taken for a letter grade on a Purdue Campus.
  • For CODO purposes, only the first or second attempt of a required course will be considered. Course withdrawals are included in this requirement.

Course Requirements
  • CS 18000 with a grade of B or higher
  • Grade of B or higher in a Calculus course approved to meet degree requirements
Other Requirements
  • Students will be admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS. The department guarantees acceptance for students who earn an A- or higher in CS 180 and B or higher in a required Calculus course and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Students on academic probation will not be considered.
  • All courses for CODO must be taken for a letter grade on a Purdue Campus.
  • For CODO purposes, only the first or second attempt of a required course will be considered.

Course Requirements
  • Students must have taken for a letter grade at least two CS and/or Mathematics courses that can be used to fulfill CS requirements for the B.S.
Other Requirements
  • Students must have a GPA of at least 2.75 in all CS and mathematics course that have been taken and that can be used to fulfill CS requirements for the B.S. 
  • Students must have a cumulative GA of at least 2.50.
  • Students must not be on academic probation.
  • We will only use MA 16100/16500 (Calculus I), MA 16200/16600 (Calculus II), MA 26100/27101 (Calculus III), and MA 26500/35100 (Linear Algebra) for the CODO GPA and CODO courses – No other Math courses.
  • CS 15800, CS 15900, CS 17700, and CS 23500 are not used in the CODO GPA calculation.
