Study Abroad

Let's Go Places!
The Computer Science department is happy to work with students who hope to study abroad. Studying abroad for a semester is a great way to fulfill your College of Science Language and Culture requirement while taking interesting courses and experiencing a new culture. Some programs even offer an internship component!

You are required to complete one semester of coursework at Purdue before studying abroad. Because you can’t take core CS courses abroad, many students choose to complete those courses prior to studying abroad. Therefore, the most common time to go is your junior year. Work with your advisor to identify the time period that works best for you.
There are many study abroad programs to choose from! All programs are listed on the Purdue Study Abroad website.
CS is an evolving curriculum at many universities, therefore there are no pre-approved CS courses. Any student wishing to take a CS course abroad must have it reviewed/approved by the CS Study Abroad Liaison even if it has been approved in prior semesters.
Meet with your advisor to confirm that studying abroad will fit within your course plan. After you receive their approval, review best-fit programs via the Purdue Study Abroad website. Once you have identified the program you would like to pursue, reach out to Amber Stanley, CS Director of Student Affairs and CS Study Abroad Liaison for next steps.
There are study abroad funding sources available through the Study Abroad Office and the College of Science.
