Fall 2025 - Malware Forensics Course Offering

CIT Prof Thompson is offering a Malware Forensics Course, CNIT 581 | CRN:20499 for Fall 2025.

I loved having the CS students in the past, and they would be most welcome again. I have a few signed up already. Undergrads are welcome to take the course as long as they have a GPA of at least 3.0. After reviewing the CS plan of study, it looks like CS 240, 250, and 252 would be helpful. I would also ask students to email me or meet with me virtually, so I can get to know them and tell them more about the course.

Description:

Not all software is benign, trustworthy, uncompromised, or otherwise safe. This course examines strategies for analyzing memory, disk, and network artifacts of malicious software. Students will safely reverse engineer the full behavior of hostile or adverse software using both static and dynamic techniques applicable to forensic and incident response investigations.
