Bolto Seeking Full Stack Junior Software Engineer

Junior Software Engineer (Full Stack) — Bolto
Location: Chicago
Compensation: Base $70,000 + 0.2 - 0.5% equity + bonuses

At Bolto , we’re building the first AI-first, all-in-one HR platform — a smarter, faster way for companies to hire, manage, and pay their teams. We’re reinventing the HR stack from the ground up, leveraging AI agents and modern frameworks to eliminate busywork and unlock strategic impact.
We’re looking for a Full Stack Junior Software Engineer to join our growing team. You’ll work across the stack with modern technologies like Svelte and React , and you’ll have the freedom to embrace agent-assisted coding tools like Cursor to move quickly and deliver impactful features.

What You’ll Do
● Own and ship features end-to-end across the frontend and backend
● Collaborate with product and design to build delightful user experiences ● Contribute to architecture, code quality, and tech strategy
● Use AI tools and agents to streamline development workflows
● Help define and shape engineering culture at a fast-moving startup
● Work in person minimum 2 days per week with two other Bolto teammates in the Density office in Chicago

What We’re Looking For
● Proficiency with React, and ideally Svelte (or willingness to learn)
● Comfort with fast-paced, iterative environments and working autonomously
● Experience building and scaling web applications
● Excitement about AI tools and building with emerging technologies

Compensation & Benefits
● Base salary: ○ $70,000
● Equity: 0.2%–0.5% (4-year vesting with 1-year cliff)
● Performance bonus: $7,000–$28,000 annually ○ Bonus will be based on both company and individual performance. This will usually skew on the lower end.
● Discretionary PTO and remote-friendly culture
● Opportunity to shape the future of work with a high-impact product
● Access to top-tier benefits including Healthcare, 401k, etc.

Tips
We know this is a junior role. We are indexing on drive just as much as performance & history. Who is going to stay as late as our office lead? Who will work on the weekends to learn the niche language we use in our stack?
● Send us 3 sentences on why you’re ready to work your ass off. Provide examples if you can. When are times you’ve “had that dog in you”?
● Read about us online as much as possible. You should be able to find plenty on LinkedIn. We want you to ask us questions that show you actually know our business and our plans for the future.
● We’re looking to move quickly, but we want to be thorough. Give us everything we need in a timely manner.

Next Steps Email your resume and your 3-4 sentence blurb to info@bolto.com with the subject line “ JUNIOR SWE APPLICANT.” If we like your resume, we will send you the same coding assessment we send to our SWE II interviewees. We will look for you to turn it in as fast as you can. (Grind over the weekend.)

Do not send us additional materials, more than one follow up email, or any other spam-y application hacks you might read about on the internet. We get them all the time. We want people who follow instructions.
