Invite to Participate in Research Study Evaluating Extended Reality Environment
Dear Students,
You are invited to participate in a research study aimed at evaluating an extended reality (XR) environment designed to support learning about artificial intelligence and neural networks, with a specific focus on bias in neural network training. The study will require approximately 60 minutes of your time in person. In addition, you will be asked to complete a follow-up questionnaire, which will be sent to you electronically and is expected to take less than 10 minutes to complete. As compensation, you will receive a $30 gift card upon completion.
Participants will first complete a demographics and pre-test questionnaire and will then be randomly assigned to one of two conditions:
- XR Condition – Participants will wear an XR headset operating in transparent video passthrough mode, enabling simultaneous interaction with both the immersive visualization and the physical environment.
- Laptop Condition – Participants will engage with the same AI visualization presented on a laptop screen.
The learning activity will last up to 30 minutes and includes animated presentations, interactive prompts, and both multiple-choice and free-form verbal responses. Following the activity, participants will complete a set of standardized questionnaires assessing usability, presence, and overall experience.
Please note that the risks associated with participation are minimal, and all tasks will be performed while seated.
Please note that participation is voluntary, which means that the participants may choose not to participate at any time.
