Participation is entirely voluntary.
We are conducting a user study to investigate methods for rendering distant scene in virtual reality (VR) headset. If you decide to participate, you will be wearing a VR headset and you will be completing two tasks, a distance comparing task and a counting task, in different virtual environments. You will also be asked to provide basic demographic information and to answer questionnaires about the experience. Your involvement will not exceed 60 minutes, and you will be compensated with a $35 gift card for your time.
Inclusion criteria
- Adults aged 18 years or older.
- Able to provide informed consent and understand instructions given in English.
- Normal or corrected-to-normal vision
- Able to wear a VR head-mounted display and to stand and move
Exclusion criteria
- History of severe cybersickness, seizures, or severe motion sickness
- Neurological disorders, vestibular dysfunction, or recent concussion/brain injury
- Reduced balance and difficulty standing for the duration of the study
- Abnormal vision such as un-corrected short- or far-sightedness, such as color blindness, and other visual impairments
- Pregnancy or recent surgeries affecting mobility and balance
- Claustrophobia, anxiety disorders, or any other psychological condition that lead to discomfort when wearing a VR headset
- Implanted medical devices (hearing aids, pacemakers, etc.)
- Have a heart condition or another serious medical condition
- Current substance use or medications impairing cognition/balance
