David Capka has been named the 2011 Distinguished Alumnus for the Department of Computer Science.
Capka is the Distinguished Technical Fellow and Chief Scientist for the Compass Project in Redondo Beach, Calif., at Northrop Grumman, (formerly TRW), and has been with the company since 1983.
Many of his research projects and development contracts focus on payload management, defense information systems and border control.
Dave has been a representative of the Computer Science Corporate Partners Program (CPP) since 2001. He first joined as a representative of TRW, and then Northrop Grumman after the purchase of his sector of TRW.

He has served as the moderator for the CPP for the past 1-1/2 years. His demeanor and familiarity with the department and CPP makes him a natural leader for the CPP.
