Spring 2007 Outstanding CS Alumni

The College of Science will honor three Computer Science alumni on Friday, March 30. These three outstanding alumni were chosen for their exceptional professional achievements and their success in advancing world technology with the application of computer science. The 2007 Computer Science Outstanding Alumni are Dr. Eric Dittert, Dr. Alan Hevner, and Mr. Gene Kim.

Dr. Eric Dittert

Dr. Eric Dittert

Dr. Eric Dittert currently works in the Intel Corporation's Software and Solutions Group. Since joining Intel in 1988, he has led advanced development projects in system management software and software development tools and programming systems. Most recently, he has been involved in the development of industry standard performance benchmark software and other strategic initiatives related to the Java(TM) programming language. Prior to joining Intel, Dr. Dittert was a member of the faculty of the Computer Science Department at New Mexico State University. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Purdue University in 1982 and his Masters in 1978. He received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Arizona State University in 1976.

Dr. Alan Hevner

Dr. Alan Hevner

Dr. Alan Hevner is an Eminent Scholar and Professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department at the University of South Florida, where he holds the Citigroup/Hidden River Chair of Distributed Technology. Dr. Hevner's areas of research interest include information systems development, software engineering, distributed database systems, health care information systems and telecommunications. He has published more than one hundred and twenty research papers on these topics and has consulted for several Fortune 500 companies. Dr. Hevner received his PhD in Computer Science from Purdue University in 1979, his Masters in 1976, and his Bachelors in 1973. He has held faculty positions at the University of Maryland at College Park and the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hevner is a member of ACM, IEEE, AIS and INFORMS. He is currently on a two-year assignment at the National Science Foundation serving as a Program Director in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Directorate.

Mr. Gene kim

Mr. Gene Kim

Mr. Gene Kim is the co-founder of the IT Process Institute and founder of Tripwire Inc. He co-authored Tripwire in 1992 with Eugene Spafford while at Purdue. Mr. Kim wrote the Visible Ops Handbook in 2004. He has been honored as one of the "Top 4 CTOs to Watch" by InfoWorld magazine, and serves on the advanced technology committee for the Institute of Internal Auditors. Mr. Kim earned his bachelor's degree in computer science from Purdue in 1993 and his master's degree in computer science from the University of Arizona.
