Updates to Turnabout 4, "Hinge-Convertible Polyominoes",
in Hinged Dissections: Swinging & Twisting, by Greg N. Frederickson

Arbitrary hinged structure

In chapter 4 of his 2004 Ph.D. dissertation at MIT, "Growing Machines", Saul Griffith discussed how to form arbitrary structure folded from a linearly-hinged string of objects. The work shares some similarities with the article (by E. Demaine, M. Demaine, D. Eppstein, E. Friedman, and myself) that was the basis for this turnabout. Especially lovely are the 3D hinging systems.
