Hyperfile: A Database Manager for Documents
HyperFile incorporates conventional database and hypertext
ideas into a database for documents and other loosely-structured
information.
HyperFile operates as a
server;
users access the database through different
application
programs.
Applications communicate with the server through a query language.
This languages supports a style of search similar to the browsing
model of hypertext, without requiring the repeated user interactions of
browsing.
Work on a distributed HyperFile is presented.
Index techniques for such queries are also explored; the techniques
developed may also have applications in object-oriented databases.
