Thu Jun 4 14:32:56 1998 Prof. Mathur, My first impression would be to let the students in 406 know and understand how important software engineering, life cycles, cost analyais, etc. is to the commercial companies. Since I started here at [ ] I have already seen many articles and book reviews on software engineering, UML, cost analysis (COCOMO) and stuff like that. I really think that many of the people who did not go onto 407 did so because they did not really see the impact that software engineering is having on companies. I know that a choice has to be made between 407 and classes like operating systems, but even people who will be working on operating systems need to know about a lot of the stuff from 406 and 407. Classes like 406 and 407 helped open a lot of doors and gave me a much broader look at the computer field than very specific classes like operating systems or windows programming. I hope this helps you out with getting more students to continue on into 407. [ ] Signed by a former student of
CS 407.
