OBJECTIVE

The objective of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to learn how to use Frame Maker. In the remainder of this course you will be using Frame Maker to compose all documentation related to your team project.  

Note that Frame Maker is a general purpose document composition tool. It is not designed exclusively to document software requirements, designs, code, etc. However, it can be used for this purpose. You will use Frame Maker for the team project as this is a part of the requirement from the project sponsor.

WHAT IS THE ASSIGNMENT? 
 
  1. Compose a document that consists of a title page and one or more pages that follow the title page.
  2. Do not number the title page, but do number the subsequent pages from 2 onwards.
  3. Type the complete text on page 85 of the UML text as it is. The typed text should appear exactly as it appears on the page (e.g. bold for bold; italics for italics etc.). Keep the font type and size as close as possible to what is on page 85.
  4. Apply the Spell check  freature of Framne Maker to ensure no spelling errors. 
  5. Make the block diagram on page 86 (Fig. 5-7) as it is; number this diagram as Figure 1. Make the table on page 57 (Table 4-1) as it is and number this as Table 1. For the table and the figure use the captions as in the UML text.

WHAT SHOULD I SUBMIT AND HOW?
     
  • Print the document for your team.
  • Staple the document.
  • Give the stapled document to the instructor at the beginning of the class on Friday September 12.
  • Save your files on a personal disk for any future reference. 
  • Note that this is a team assignment; only one submission per team is required.  However, each member of the team must be capaable of  completing the assignment.

WHERE DO I WORK FOR THE ASSIGNMENT? 
 
  • Go to the Windows NT laboratory located in Room 175 of the Computer Science Building.

  •  
  • You, and your team members, may work on any available NT station in the laboratory.

  •  
  • You should have an account on the machine. If you are having any trouble logging into any machine, contact the Teaching Assistant for CS 406.

Installing and Using Frame Maker on 
NT Machines in the NT Lab
  1. Simulteneously  press cntrl+alt+del keys  to login.
  2. Enter your login id and password when requested. When you  login for the first time, you will be asked for a new password. Enter your new password and remember it for your future login sessions on NT machines.
  3. There is a start button at the bottom left corner of the screen. Follow the sequence:
  4. Start --> Programs --> Install Applications --> Install Adobe Framemaker 

    Click on Adobe FrameMaker to install it. 

  5. Now you can run FrameMaker by following the sequence :
  6. Start --> Programs --> Adobe --> FrameMaker

    Click on FrameMaker to start the application
