Graduate Curricular Practical Training

Instructions for international Computer Science Graduate students

Any questions should be directed to ISS

If you are a BS/MS student please talk to ISS and Lori O'Brien before proceeding

Go to http://www.iss.purdue.edu/PracticalTraining/CPT.cfm to learn about CPT.

Select How to Apply for CPT and follow the directions.

Step 1 - Obtain an offer letter:

See ISS for the specific details that must be included.

Step 2 - Receive Departmental Approval:

Approval is granted by a CS faculty member and Lori O’Brien (ljobrien@purdue.edu).

To receive approval, bring a Form 23 signed by the faculty member who will be supervising your CPT with your expected graduation date written in the notes section to the Grad Office LWSN 1137.

For a CPT that is approved by your major professor with the expectation that it will be used for your thesis or dissertation:
CS 69800 Research MS Thesis
CS 69900 Research PhD Thesis
For a CPT that is NOT approved to be used as part of your thesis or dissertation:
CS 59799 Graduate Professional Practice

CS approval does not guarantee ISS approval

Step 3 - Complete required ISS application, requirements and register for course:

Take the signed Form 23 to The Office of The Registrar, Hovde Hall

The initial grade is normally NS (not submitted), and a grade of S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) assigned after the reports have been received. Work with the supervising faculty member to determine what the requirements are for a satisfactory grade to be submitted
