Internship in the Digital Innovation in Agri-food Systems Lab

Paid Academic Year Internship in the Digital Innovation in Agri-food Systems Lab

The Digital Innovation in Agri-food Systems Lab (DIAL) seeks talented undergraduate students interested in digital innovation in food and agriculture.  DIAL will hire up to four students to work during the 21/22 school year on projects designed to help DIAL create its web presence, marketing information, market databases, clientele lists, etc.  You will work with a professional team on a daily basis in a dynamic environment where entrepreneurship is embraced and teamwork is valued.  The four interns will work as a team on projects to deliver professional content that will be used in DIAL to facilitate the creation of startup companies designed to innovate and disrupt the agriculture and food system.

Requirements

  • A currently enrolled undergraduate student at Purdue with at least 2 semesters remaining before graduation.
  • Interest in digital innovation, entrepreneurship, startup companies, venture funding, the food industry, and/or the agricultural industry.
  • Studying business, computer science, agribusiness, agricultural systems, agricultural engineering, food science, or other disciplines related to digital innovation in industry.
  • A class schedule that allows for time during the day to meet with your intern cohort at DIAL’s offices to work together. There will also be time to work individually.

Nice to have but not necessary:

  • Agriculture background
  • Computer science background
  • Digital applications background (data management, data analytics, software design, etc.)

Learning Experience

You will be interacting with professionals that work every day to create digital startup companies in the agriculture and food space, generate venture funding for these startups, and conduct research to help inform the market potential for these digital startup companies.  You will be able to see startups developed from idea to launch to funding stages.  You will gain invaluable experience in the startup environment that drives industry innovation.

Expectations

These are paid positions with expectations that interns spend most of their daytime outside of class in the DIAL offices working between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. (approximately 15 to 20 hours per week).

You are expected to work as a team on projects that are often ill defined, require creativity, and require self-discipline to deliver on time, on budget, and on brand.

You are expected to represent DIAL and Purdue in events and functions that support the vision and mission of DIAL.  This will require you to interact with other professionals in a social setting at times including the occasional evening event.

Pay Rate:   $15/hr.
