This position offers about 6 hours of work per week but the pay is competitive at $17/hour for those qualified for work study.

Database Technician
The Wabash River Enhancement Corporation (WREC) is a 501C3 nonprofit located in Lafayette, IN. We lead community efforts to develop long range plans to improve the riverfront, the river corridor, and water quality; and then we engage the community in their implementation. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life in the Wabash River Corridor by creating sustainable opportunities to improve health, recreation, education, economic development, and environmental management.
The Wabash Sampling Blitz is a citizen science event taking place every spring and fall. Volunteers have been collecting water quality data at this event since 2009. Volunteers monitor temperature, water transparency, nutrient levels, and E. coli in our local streams.
This position’s goal is to improve data storage, database management, and quality control of water quality data that has been collected at Sampling Blitz events. This position will primarily be located in WREC’s office in downtown Lafayette, with some ability to work remotely as long as the candidate has access to the necessary software. Weekend work may be necessary once a semester during the water sampling event. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities include:
• Quality control checks of existing data stored in MS Excel sheets
• Developing a database to store this data in MS Access
• Developing data entry and QAQC procedures for future water quality data collection events
• Assisting in water quality collection events once per semester
• Assisting in lab analysis of water quality samples once per semester
Required Qualifications
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Experience working with datasets in MS Excel
• Experience building databases
• Experience with or ability to learn MS Access
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently
• Experience running quality control checks on data sets
• Attention to detail
Hourly wage: $17/hour
Typical work time: 6 hours per week
