Envision Center Open Positions

The ITaP Envision Center is seeking to fill a few undergraduate positions including Unity developers and web visualization programmers. These positions will be working on animations, virtual/augmented reality simulations, scientific visualizations, and interactive learning environments. The Envision Center is a service laboratory specializing in scientific visualization, virtual reality simulations, multimedia production and human computer interaction research. A subgroup within Purdue’s Research Computing, the Envision Center provides novel solutions to effectively communicate complex research concepts using advanced visualization equipment, multimodal interaction and state of the art high performance computation. Undergraduate Unity Developer

 

This student will be working on building realtime Unity simulations and games to be deployed in web, VR, AR, mobile, and standalone systems. This will involve working with 2D/3D artists, UX and sound specialists to develop full fledged applications for research, education and outreach. This position will create opportunities to grow the student’s portfolio and provide experience in project development pipeline, client interactions, time and team management.

 

Skills, Proficiency & Requirements

    • Passionate about developing real-time interactive applications
    • Applicants must be familiar with developing in Unity and C#
    • Strong candidates will have in-depth knowledge of multiple Unity features, vector math, and software design
    • Experience with shaders; OpenGL; or developing for Android, iOS, VR, or AR (Vuforia/AR-Core) is valued but not required

 

Web Visualization Programmer

 

This student will be working on building interactive real-time 3D visualizations for web. This will involve working with geospatial visualization frameworks like CesiumJS, back-end infrastructure like AWS and front-end JavaScript frameworks. The student may also be involved in collaborating with artists and implementing innovative interaction techniques along with deploying and testing. This position will create opportunities to grow the student’s portfolio and provide experience in project development pipeline, client interactions, time and team management.

 

Skills, Proficiency & Requirements

    • Experience with JavaScript and Python is required.
  • Experience with working with geospatial data is required.
  • Experience with front-end web frameworks is required.
  • Experience with a graphics API like OpenGL/WebGL is required.
  • Knowledge of linear algebra is required.
  • Familiarity with concurrency/parallelism paradigms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AWS/Docker is preferred.
  • Experience with procedural rendering is preferred.
  • Knowledge of aviation, meteorology is a bonus.
