TechPoint S.O.S (Summer Opportunities for Students) Challenge!, Apply by 6/1

Our friends from the TechPoint team have an exciting opportunity for you to consider!

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we know thousands of students across the country are facing the loss of internship and employment opportunities this summer. The team at TechPoint saw this impact first hand as nearly half of the participants in the Xtern program lost internships due to the pandemic. As we thought about solutions for our program, we knew we had to think broadly about whom we could serve. Over the course of the last several weeks we’ve developed a solution that activates the resources of our community to ensure you will have an opportunity to improve your skills and develop professionally this summer. Today we are proud to announce The TechPoint S.O.S (Summer Opportunities for Students) Challenge!

WHAT THE S.O.S. CHALLENGE IS ALL ABOUT

During this five-week program, running from June 15th through July 17th, you will work alongside a team of peers to create a tech solution for challenges communities are facing due to COVID-19. Your S.O.S. project will give you an opportunity to flex and hone your skills, and to show employers what you can do! Indy area tech companies will sponsor teams through company “coaches” who will dedicate their time and expertise to give project guidance as needed. They will also provide a professional connection, giving participants insight into what it's like to work in tech and their specific occupation.

The S.O.S. Challenge will also include virtual programming that will introduce you to what Indy has to offer as a place to live, work, and play. You will have a chance to get to know some key players in the Indy Tech Ecosystem, as well as ways to make yourself the best possible candidate for job opportunities when you begin your job search.

At the end of the program, you will receive a $500 stipend (exceptional work may also lead to additional compensation through the Challenge)! You will have an opportunity to show off your work to employers, tech all-stars, and - for the top teams - a chance to earn prize money and an opportunity to present to the Governor of Indiana, Eric Holcomb!

WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR THE S.O.S. CHALLENGE

Applicants must be 18 years or older. Priority will be given to those from TechPoint’s 2020 Xtern Program who lost internships, students from TechPoint member universities in Indiana who have lost internships/jobs due to COVID-19, and those in Eastern and Central time zones that allow for collaboration.
