Seeking Participants for CS Research Study

We are looking for participants in our study that aims to evaluate an augmented reality (AR)
approach to guide the user’s attention to a specific real world object. The study will take up to 60
minutes of your time. You will be compensated with a $15 Amazon gift card.

You will be given a tablet or a phone running its camera application. You will be asked to aim the
device at a large projector screen in our laboratory. The projector displays various images. The
device will guide your attention to a part of the image on the screen and you will have to indicate
the part of the image with a conventional laser pointer. There is no risk to you beyond the
minimal risks associated with using a tablet, a phone, and a laser pointer.
We will collect the following data, for each attention guidance and pointing trial: the image region
you indicate, and the time you take to indicate the image region. We will also collect your
answers to a task load questionnaire and to a system usability questionnaire. We will also
collect the following data on a voluntary basis: age, gender, experience with AR applications.

The study will be conducted during the spring and summer 2022 semester. If you are interested
in participating, please email the experimenter Yuqi Zhou at zhou1168@purdue.edu.
