Happy Spring 2019! As you begin your new semester, we hope that you build into your spring schedule some of the events the OUR is planning! If your resolution included starting an undergraduate research experience or to get the most from a current research experience, consider the online courses available now!

Fall Undergraduate Research Expo Synopsis

Over 250 student researchers presented their work to the Purdue community on Nov. 12. In the morning, students selected by their respective college, Purdue Libraries, or Purdue Archives delivered oral presentations. In the afternoon, student researchers presented posters in the PMU Ballrooms.

The Honors College evaluated the oral presenters and determined the following ranking to recognize top presenters:
1st Place: Nik Nikolai
2nd Place: Amanda Warnock
3rd Place: Brandon Hacha

Spring '19 Online Undergrad Research Courses

The Office of Undergraduate Research offers a series of online courses for prospective and current undergraduate researchers. For the Spring '19 semester, the following courses are offered:

GS 19501 - Preparing for Your Undergraduate Research Experience
Prereq: No previous independent undergraduate research experience.
GS 29501 - Understanding Your Undergraduate Research Experience
Prereq: Current undergraduate researcher.
GS 39501 - Understanding Your Undergraduate Research Experience II
Prereqs: Current undergraduate researchers & successful completion of GS29501.

Submit Research to Undergraduate Research Conference

The spring Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference (PURC) is coming up in April 2019 and submissions are being accepted for oral presentations and posters now. Oral presentations require a 3-5 page paper of the research project and posters require only an abstract. Non-selected papers for oral presentations will automatically be considered for posters using their abstracts.

Deadline to submit papers for oral presentations: February 4, 2019
Deadline to submit abstracts for posters: March 1, 2019

Scholarships & Funding Opportunities

The OUR offers various grant opportunities. Below are two upcoming grant deadlines for completing and presenting research:

OUR Travel Grant
Undergraduate students who have been selected to present research findings at a national/international conference are eligible to have up to $500 of their travel expenses covered by the OUR Travel Grant.
Deadline to apply: February 15, 2019

OUR Research Grant
The OUR Research Grant program supports Purdue undergraduate students in the pursuit of their research, creative endeavors, and scholarly activities.
Deadline to apply: February 15, 2019

Spring '19 OUR Events & Deadlines

March 5. Celebrate Purdue's Thinkers, Creators, & Experimenters
A project showcase where researchers show attendees what they are working on via models, demonstrations, activities, etc. Open to student clubs, independent researchers, or faculty-student research projects.
1:30-4:30pm :: Co-Rec
Register by February 19, 2019.

Purdue Undergraduate Research Conference
The annual research conference with awards for top student posters and oral presentations.
April 4 :: 1-4pm :: STEW 214 :: Oral Presentations (Submit by February 4, 2019)
April 9 :: 9am-4pm :: PMU Ballrooms :: Poster Symposium (Submit by March 1, 2019)
