Purdue CS Ranks High with U.S. News

The Purdue Computer Science Department is ranked #19 on the U.S. News and World Report America's Best Graduate Schools of 2009. U.S. News determines America's Best Graduate Schools from data collected from over 12,000 graduate programs. They access schools in Business, Law, Medical, Engineering, Education, the Science, Library and Information Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities, Health, Public Affairs, and Fine Arts.

2008 Outstanding Alumni

2008 Outstanding Alumni The Computer Science Department honored 2008 CS Outstanding Alumni Award recipients, "Phillip" Ke-Hsiung Chung, James Clamons, and Vincent DeGiulio, on Friday, September 5. Recipients of this award have shown exceptional professional achievements and great success in advancing world technology during their career.

Chung of Taipei, Taiwan, is a retired Army Major General for Taiwan and vice president for MiTAC International Corp., an electronics and computer company based in Taiwan. He earned a doctorate in computer science from Purdue in 1993.

Clamons, vice president of engineering for the government communication systems division of the Harris Corp. in Melbourne, Fla. He earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1975 and master's in computer science in 1977, both from Purdue.

DeGiulio of Chicago, is a senior executive at Accenture, one of the world's largest technology services firms. He receive his bachelor's degree in computer science from Purdue in 1987.

Frederickson Inducted into Book of Great Teachers

Greg Frederickson Professor Greg Frederickson is an inductee of the Purdue University Book of Great Teachers. The induction ceremony took place on August 28, 2008 in the North Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union. The Book of Great Teachers inducts new member once every five years. The Book of Great Teachers is a list of Purdue's finest educators. The list is displayed on a permanent plaque in the Purdue Memorial Union.

Frederickson joined the Purdue University Department of Computer Science in 1982. His research interests include the analysis of algorithms, with special emphasis on data structures, and graph and network algorithms. Frederickson has been recognized in the past for his teaching as an Outstanding Teacher in Science. He also won the 2004 George Pólya Award from the Mathematical Association of America.
