Scheduled software updates for Linux, Solaris, IRIX and Mac OS systems

9 May 2008

The default versions of Thunderbird (/p/thunderbird) will be updated from Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 to Thunderbird 2.0.0.14. There should be no user visible changes.

9 May 2008

Pine 4.64 was installed in /opt/csw/bin on Solaris machines a couple years ago. Because /opt/csw/bin is in the default path of most users, there was no longer a need for users to use the /p/pine path. However, /p/pine was never updated to reference this new version (.i.e for those users still using the /p/pine path). /p/pine will be updated to provide backward compatibility.

21 April 2008

The default versions of Firefox (/p/firefox) on Solaris systems will be updated from Firefox 2.0.0.12 to Firefox 2.0.0.14. There should be no user visible changes.

16 April 2008

The default version of ClamAV (/p/clamav) on the Solaris systems was updated from ClamAV version 0.92.1 to ClamAV version 0.93. This is the anti-virus scanner used on our incoming mail server.

2 April 2008

The default versions of Java 1.6 (/p/java-1.6) was updated from Java 1.6.0_01 to Java 1.6.0_05. There should be no user visible changes.

Scheduled system downtimes

15 May 2007

Solaris 8 and Solaris 10 systems will be updated to the current patch level. They will be rebooted between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM on Thursday, May 15. Individual machines should only take about 5 minutes to reboot some time during the two hour window, but because of server dependencies the effective downtime may be longer.

7 May 2008 - 31 May 2008

The HAAS G040 lab will be closed while the machines are upgraded to Sun Ray 270s.

29 April 2008 - 1 August 2008

The HAAS 175 lab will be closed during the summer to allow for building infrastructure upgrades to power and network wiring.

18 April 2008

ITaP will be installing an upgrade on network switches in several buildings between 4AM and 6AM on Friday, April 18. One of the buildings affected is HAAS. The upgrade will require two reboots of each network switch, each reboot about 10 minutes. During these two 10 minute intervals, network connectivity in the building will be unreliable.
Note, LWSN should not be affected by this upgrade.
Note, this was originally scheduled for Friday, April 11, but ITaP has rescheduled it for the date given above.

10 April 2008

ITaP will be doing electrical work in HAAS that will require turning off the power conditioner in HAAS 274 from 9:00AM to 12:00noon (they may not need to whole three hours). This power conditioner distributes power to HAAS 175, HAAS 257 and HAAS 274. All the computers in HAAS 175 and some of the computers in HAAS 257 will be off during this time. They will be shut down about 8:00 so they are off before the power is turned off. There should not be in computers in HAAS 274 that are still connected to the power conditioner.
