The Experimental Process 

Input solutions are placed in reservoirs connected to a pump controller. The controller allows the experimenter to specify the mixing of the various solutes and their flow rates. The mixed solution is sent through a column where separation takes place. The output of the column is collected by a detector which produces data representing the concentations of various components as they elude from the column. The data is processed by specialized hardware and custom software.
