Deliverables

This page contains links to deliverables for the Department of Energy contract. They are organized by month and year.
The research tasks for the GasTurbnLab project are divided into four task areas with the total of nine subtasks.
  • A) A PSE research activity based on a turbulent flow, combustion and mechanical coupling in gas turbines as the driving application. Subtasks here include:
A1: Simulate turbine rotors structurally and aerodynamically including misturning effects.
A2: Simulate the combustor processes including atomization, spray, turbulence and combustion.
A3: Simulate instability onset using the coupling of the rotors, compressor and combustor.
  • B) Development of agent based collaborative simulation. Subtasks here include:
B1: Develop a component based network model of the compressor, combustor and turbine of a gas turbine engine.
B2: Develop an agent based PDE solving technique for multi-physics simulations.
  • C) Development of a validation methodology that is integrated into the PSE. Subtasks here include:
C1: Create a mechanism for direct comparisons of computed solutions with physical data, analytical solutions and physical models.
C2: Develop an experimental design technique to assess the validity of a simulation program based on comparisons for individual solutions.
  • D) Study of computational methodology for handling disparate scales in computation for gas turbines. The specific areas involved are linking micro-scale and macro-scale phenomena in 1)combustion and 2)turbine blade wear and performanace. Subtasks here include:
D1: Linking micro-scale droplet formation and evaporation in combustion to macro-scale performance.
D2: Linking micro-scale fatigue and wear of turbine blades to macro-scale performance.
The project deliverables are related to the above subtasks and scheduled as follows:
