Frederickson Inducted into Book of Great Teachers

Professor Greg Frederickson is an inductee of the Purdue University Book of Great Teachers. The induction ceremony took place on August 28, 2008 in the North Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union. The Book of Great Teachers inducts new member once every five years. The Book of Great Teachers is a list of Purdue's finest educators. The list is displayed on a permanent plaque in the Purdue Memorial Union.

Frederickson joined the Purdue University Department of Computer Science in 1982. His research interests include the analysis of algorithms, with special emphasis on data structures, and graph and network algorithms. Frederickson has been recognized in the past for his teaching as an Outstanding Teacher in Science. He also won the 2004 George Pólya Award from the Mathematical Association of America. He has served on the editorial boards of SIAM Journal on Computing, SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, IEEE Transactions on Computers, and Algorithmica. He has published three books, Dissections Plane & Fancy, Cambridge University Press, 1997, Hinged Dissections: Swinging & Twisting, Cambridge University Press, 2002, and Piano-Hinged Dissections: Time to Fold!, A K Peters, 2006.

Faculty members inducted into the Book of Great Teachers are nominated by students, alumni, or colleagues. Nominees must have served as a Purdue faculty member for at least ten years. Those chosen for the book are faculty members who show dedication to excellence in teaching every day.
