Computing at Purdue Ranked No. 9The computing graduate program at Purdue University has been ranked 9th in the Nation in an article published in the June 2007 issue of Communications of the ACM . The framework described in the article by Jie Ren and Richard N. Taylor, "Automatic and Versatile Publications Ranking for Research Institutions and Scholars," uses publication data from 1995 to 2003 to rank computing graduate programs. According to this publication-based rating, the top ten institutions are:
Purdue ranked 17th on the worldwide list of software engineering institutions. The top five spots went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1), Carnegie Mellon University (2), Georgia Institute of Technology (3), University of Maryland, College Park (4), and Oregon State University (5). These rankings complement other existing rankings, in particular the U.S. News and World Report ranking and the 1993 National Research Council (NRC) ranking of U.S. doctoral programs. The most recent NRC review is currently being conducted. The Purdue CS Department ranks 18th in the U.S. News and World Report and 26th in the NRC ranking. |
