Alumnus Gives CERIAS Seminar |
Kanich's seminar presentation was titled "Understanding Spam Economics" and it explored the mechanisms and effectiveness of spam and other Internet scams, an understanding of which is necessary for counteracting cybercrime. A full abstract is available here. Kanich graduated from Purdue University in 2005 with a B.S. in mathematics and computer science. He went on to study computer science and engineering at the University of California, San Diego, where he earned his Ph.D. in 2012. Dr. Kanich began his position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago in August 2012. His research centers around Internet security and Internet measurement, with a particular focus on fully characterizing attackers' motivations, capabilities, and strategies. |
