Educational
Background
Bachelor of Science:
Mathematics; Purdue University (1989)
Master of Science:
Mathematics; Purdue University (1991)
Work Background
After graduating the
second time from Purdue I was as a math instructor for Freshman
Engineering until my family moved to Brazil in 1994. There I taught
mathematics for the British School until my return to Purdue in 1997. I
worked as a lecturer in the Math department for another 2 years then I
joined the science academic advising staff in 1999.
I have been primarily involved with CS advising and in the last two
years I have been advising math majors. 70% of my time is dedicated to
advising and 30% dedicated to the Computer Science department. For the CS
assignment my major projects are: coordinator of CS undergraduate research
and CS-EPICS.
Hobbies/Interests
My hobbies and interests
have changed over the years. I went from being very active involvement in
sports such as volleyball and team handball to a passive one, where I take
my kids to swimming, soccer, baseball and martial arts. You can think of
me as the typical soccer mom. You can find me yelling over the side lines!
I love traveling. Since my family is scattered between Brazil and Spain I
get to visit them quite often. I love to sing but I can't keep a tune, I
love to dance but I have no rhythm and I love to draw but I have no
talent. Nevertheless I keep singing, dancing and drawing.
Goals
My main goal right now is
to say "Good bye" to each of my students in their native language. And
when this goal is accomplished I will start learning how to say "hello".
Advice for
Students
Ask questions, challenge yourself, and
discover the pleasure in learning!
