"Biological diversity generated by differential processing of DNA" A large fraction of the protein-coding genes of multicellular organisms are alte rnatively spliced. According to recent estimates, about 40% of human genes are a lternatively spliced. In some extreme examples, just one fragmment of DNA (a gen e?)can generate more protein isoforms then the remaining entire genomic DNA. The re is a growing need to re-evaluate some basic canons of genetics and to find so lutions that will make biological studies more managable.
