Extras at Purdue

Home

While research has been my main focus at Purdue, I also try to spare time for other activities with select Purdue Student Organizations. Here are links to some purdue Student Organizations I have been part of. Check them out, when you have time.

1. Asha for education :
I served as the web master and also a volunteer from 2004-2007. This is one of the major international organizations that concentrates efforts from all over the world for providing basic education to underprivileged children from India.

2. Upsilon Pi Epsilon  (UPE) :
I served as the Vice-President (2006-2007) and President (2007-2008) of this Computer Science honor society. We created the tutor programs for undergraduate students, and held Quiz events that attracted quite good number of student participation. This was really a top-class students effort.

3. Purdue University Cricket Club  ( PUCC), Virtual Reality Cricket Team (blog)
When I was 15, I represented (after an open selection) the Under-16, and subsequently Under-19 Cricket Team of Chidambharanar District ( renamed to Tuticorin District). I also captained my school cricket team to the third place in the inter-school competition conducted by the Tuticorin District Cricket Association. Well, in India, your dreams always lie around education. This meant I left everything with regards to cricket, until I came to Purdue. They say old habits die hard - True to these words, I played a certain, but limited amount of cricket at Purdue. In the 2007 (and only) season I played for PUCC, we won the Midwest Cricket Tournament championship and also came very close in winning (runners-up) the Midwest Cricket Conference championship. Apart from these, I played for, and also captained the Virtual Reality Cricket Team to three consecutive championships (Fall 2006, Spring 2007, Fall 2007) in the Purdue Cricket Indoor league organized by the PUCC. And finally, as part of Team PCL, we won the inaugural Purdue Cricket League championship in Spring 2008. Right now, I am away from any of these.

4. Indian Classical Music at Purdue  (ICMAP)
Music presents me an opportunity to fly far away from this adhoc world. Though I didn't have absolutely any background in classical music, the concerts organized by ICMAP were somehow intelligible/cherishable to me. So, I indulged in this association from 2005 to 2007, serving as the webmaster and a general volunteer. Currently I am reading every poem of one of the greats, Subramanya Bharathi.
