Assignment 3: Replication, Design, Query Processing

Start date 25 March, due beginning of class 3 April.

Complete the following exercises:

  1. Book exercise 12.9 (a), (b). You'll need to read the discussion of quorum-based voting protocols staring on the middle of Page 408.
  2. Book exercise 5.2.
  3. Book exercise 5.8.
  4. Book exercise 8.3 (show steps, i.e., answer questions 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3 using the query of 8.3.)

If you are taking the Qual1, you should look at exercises 5.12 and 5.15. Don't turn them in, but these are an example of the style of question you can expect on the qualifying exam supplement.

Electronic submission preferred, upload text or PDF (or check with me for other formats) to Blackboard. Hard copy is acceptable as well, please hand in at the beginning of class.
