Assignment 8: Digital Rights Management

Start date 2 December, due 9 December beginning of class.

Assignment 8 is to read one of the following papers, and write a written report (as if reviewing a journal article). Read the following for suggestions on how to review a paper:

• Alan Jay Smith, The Task of the Referee, IEEE, 1990.
• KAIS Editorial Board, Knowledge and Information Systems Guidelines for Reviews, 1998-2001.
• Some reviews of one of my papers.

All I ask is that it be relevant to digital rights management or other legal issues in information security, and of reasonable technical depth. If you choose such a paper, please send me a URL to electronic copy for approval. If I don't respond in 24 hours, then your choice is approved by default.

This assignment is scored by giving up to two points in each of the following categories:

• Demonstration of general knowledge of the content of the paper.
• Demonstration of knowledge of specific details of the paper.
• Value of the review in assisting an editor in making a decision.
• Value of the review in helping the author improve their paper.

Turning in assignment

Electronic submission preferred, using the turnin command (on mentor.ics.purdue.edu or expert.ics.purdue.edu, turnin -c cs526 -p asn8 filename). Hard copy is acceptable, please hand in at the beginning of class.
