Video that allows the user to adjust the quality of the output at the same
time adjust for low bandwidths and require minimal CPU usage of the end
users system has always been desired. The goal behind PMC was to provide a
solution with this ideal for everyone, anywhere at anytime. The use of the
internet and wireless technology has been and will continue escalate. With
this, person to person interaction and simple video interfaces will be
needed from personal desktops to WAP phones.
This is where PMC will help solve these issues. Systems with low CPU
cycles to spend on software usually are PDAs and cell phones. These
devices people carry with them everwhere and use them for just about
everything. The PMC format will allow people with these devices to view
videos and still images from which ever device they choose.
Highlights of PMC
- small AND portable decompressor
- smaller video files to transmit
- quickly able to view images and videos
- adjustable quality in compression
- ideal for imbedding into small devices
- very little CPU time and power required
This is all made possible by a trivial decompressor that can be ported to
just about anything. Some simple examples of this are located in the
Stills and Videos section on this site. The orginal compressor and
decompressor is writen in C/C++ but the decompressor for the web interface
is writen in Java. Thus, allowing the decompressor to be light weight,
portable, and efficient.
