Technology will always be in demand and steadily increasing. Small
personal devices are becoming more and more common but the amount of power
behind them is no where near a personal computer. WAP phones, Palm Pilots,
GPS units, and video phones are all apart of this group of small devices.
There are some areas of interest that could use improvement in the PMC
format. One of which is the file format before the data is arithmeticaly
compressed. There is no way to skip an instruction or a frame currently.
There are a few other minor issues with the file layout for PMCs, but
currently they have little to no baring on the compression.
The Java applet needs to cleaned up and made a little more
portable. Currently there are issues with all the different Java Virtual
Machines (JVMs) and not all of them opperate the same way.
It is complately possible to compress images and video segments smaller
than the current standard Mpeg. Also, it is possible to make a viewer that
is light weight, portable to any platform and require minimal CPU
usuage. This format and player is just the begining of the possibilities
and uses of better compression and players.
