Wednesday - December 3, 2003: CS348 Students. The following is a very good course for the Spring 2004: Introduction to Data Mining Information Security (CS 490D) to be offered by Prof. Chris Clifton.
Acoording to Professor Clifton: "This course will be an introduction to data mining. Topics will range from statistics to machine learning to databases, with a focus on analysis of large data sets. Expect at least one project involving real data, that you will be the first to apply data mining techniques to."

Thursday - October 9, 2003: As discussed today in class, we will defer the mid-term till Tuesday October 21, 2003 in class.

Thursday - October 9, 2003: Turnin Instructions for Set B.

Monday - October 6, 2003: In Assignment Set B, Problem 6, notice that we want to compose the division operator using the other basic relational operators, i.e.,  selections, projections, joins, union, intersect, and minus. Do not simply state A/B as the answer.

Friday - October 3, 2003: IMPORTANT NOTICE - The TAs demanded that Assignment Set B should be handed in electronically using the turn in command. This way, they can grade their portions of the assignments concurrently. So, the turnin command will be set to October 16, 2003 1:00PM.

Thursday – October 2, 2003: Because of the October break, the deadline for Assignment Set B has been changed to October 16, 2003. Please take a note ofthe new deadline. Also, the grade weights of each problem are specified.

Tuesday - September 30, 2003: Assignment Set B is out. It is due October 16, 2003 before class starts.

Monday - September 15, 2003: Here are the data sets: students.dat and students2.dat
Name your programs as query1.1, query1.2, ..., query2.1, query2.2, .... Each of your programs will assume that a data file students.dat is stored in the current directory and when invoked, each program should perform the designated functionality and produce the desired output.
So, your programs should be invoked in the following way:
query1.1
query1.2 
....

Programming Assignments 1 and 2: Due September 23 11:59AM. More instructions on how to turn in the two programming assignments will be posted soon.
Written Design Assignments 3 and 4: Due September 23, to be handed in class before class starts.
