Course Schedule



General:
This seminar course will focus on database systems and their role in several interdisciplinary research areas.
Topics to be covered include:

Students will have a semester-long medium-size project that will be related to the above topics and that will have a research flavor. Good projects typically result in a research paper and a conference submission.

Grading:
There are no final or mid-term exams in this course. However, the course grade will be based on the active participation in class discussions,
paper presentations, paper reviewing, and a semester-long project.

The grade will be distributed in the following way:

    Presentations: 35%
    Project: 40%
    Paper Reviews: 15%
    Class Discussions and Participation: 10%

Textbooks:
The following books are "Recommended References" but are not "Required":
    Database System Concepts (Fourth Edition)
    Silberschatz, Korth, and Sudarshan

    Database Management Systems (Second Edition)
    Raghu Ramakrishnan and Johannes Gehrke.

Other papers and references will be given by the instructor.
