Aditya's education and work experience: Aditya is the head and professor in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University, West Lafayette.

He completed his BE (Hons), ME (Hons), and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), India, in 1970, '72, and '77, respectively.

He, along with a few other colleagues, young and restless, started the first Computer Science department in India in 1974. He worked at BITS from 1973 until 1985. He then spent two years as a Visiting Associate Professor at Georgia Tech in Atlanta before joining Purdue University in West Lafayette in 1987. Since 1996 Aditya has been a Professor of Computer Science at Purdue.

Previous books by Aditya: His most famous and successful book is titled Introduction to Microprocessors and was published in 1980 by Tata-McGraw Hill. This was the first textbook on Microprocessors in India, subsequent editions arrived in 1984 and 1989. The third edition has now completed its 27th reprint.

This book allowed professors all over India to introduce courses in Microprocessors. Thousands of students in India and elsewhere have used it to learn about a fascinating device- microprocessor, and its related peripherals. Some believe that this book is one of a set of key instruments that led to the computer revolution in India. The book continues to serve as a reference in many colleges and universities in India.


Aditya's Teaching and research: Since 1973, Aditya has taught a variety of courses ranging from freshman programming to senior graduate level course in advanced computer architecture. He has taught well over a thousand students. He loves to teach, likes students, and they too seem to like him as is evident from the many teaching awards he has received and emails he continues to receive.

Aditya's research has been primarily in the area of Software Engineering. He has over 100 publications in top quality peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. A complete Vita is available.

Other interests: Aditya loves to write poetry and compose music. He has written and composed quite a few unique pieces. A complete list is found here.

Aditya has studied piano with Ms. Verna Abe for 12 years and Ghatam with Shri T. R. Dhandapani for six months. In 1996, Aditya completed all requirements for a music minor at Purdue University. He studied music theory (12 credits) with Professor Helen Brown and Mozart (3-credits) with Professor Ronald Kidd.
