Please join us in congratulating Prof. Wojciech Szpankowski on being named a
Fellow of the IEEE. He was cited for "contributions to information system
performance evaluation."
This honor is especially significant because the number of IEEE Fellows is
very limited. From the IEEE website:
As it stands today, the IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the
Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of
accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. A brief citation is
issued to new Fellows describing their accomplishments and the total number
selected in any one year does not exceed one-tenth percent of the total
voting Institute membership.
Prof. Szpankowski was the only Purdue faculty member (in any department)
named to the rank of Fellow this year. He becomes the sixth member of our
department to receive this distinction, joining Profs.
Atallah,
Bhargava,
Sameh,
Spafford, and
Vitter.
(As an aside, in January, we will be joined by our seventh IEEE Fellow,
Prof. Elisa Bertino.)
The IEEE Fellows of 2004.
