For the Ph.D. with a specialization in computational science and engineering, the requirements are the same as for the regular doctoral program except that:

The plan of study must:

include four CS&E core courses other than CS 501.

include four courses in a single application area outside Computer Sciences. Appropriate CS&E core courses may be used to fulfill application area requirements.

include five of CS 502, 503, 514, 520, 565, 580, and 584 with
-
at least two of CS 502, 503, and 565;
-
at least one of CS 514 and 520; and
-
at least one of CS 580 and CS 584.

CS 514 and 520 may also be used toward the CS&E core requirements.

list at least one half of the course credits in Computer Sciences. CS 501 may not be used.

reflect a GPA of at least 3.25. Grades must be A or B.

be approved by the CS&E graduate committee (as well as by the Computer Sciences graduate committee and the student's advisory committee).

Part 2 of the qualifying examination will contain a component, determined by the Computer Sciences and CS&E graduate committees, covering the application area.

The thesis is done under CS 699.
