Orientation: Access to Computers
  • Public access computers are located in the computer lab on the first floor of Stewart Center, in the Purdue Memorial Union, and the Undergraduate Library !!!

  • 1) Set Up a Purdue Career Account:
  • Follow the instructions in this link. You will need to know your PUID. (The Career Account is also called SSINFO account.)
  • 2) Access your CS account:
  • Got to the CS portal here: https://portals.cs.purdue.edu/
  • Log in with your Purdue Career Account information. Confirm password manager option.

    You should see a page with

         Account Access

          Your account information

    Click on the "account information" link, accept the terms and submit.

    This takes you to a page with your CS login and initial password. You need to remember it.

  • 3) Forward CS e-mail to your Purdue Career Account
  • First, make sure your Purdue e-mail is configured to "store" by visiting https://directory.purdue.edu/directory-bin/nph-update.pl (use your Purdue Career Account login/password) Go to the "service" line toward the bottom of the page. If it lists "reject" or "forward to your-login@cs.purdue.edu", change it to store.
  • Second, log in to your CS account on ector.cs.purdue.edu and issue the command
    • mailer forward me to your-login@purdue.edu
  • You can get full details for accessing your Purdue mail account at http://www.itap.purdue.edu/email/

  • 4) Change your password
  • ssh to ector.cs.purdue.edu and use the "passwd" command.
  • 5) Encounter a problem
  • see Dan Trinkle in Lawson 2116N or ask during our "Facilities" orientation session.
