International applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate competence in English by the application deadline.

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language):
    • a total of 95 on the internet-based test (with at least 18 in speaking and writing, 19 in reading, and 14 in listening), or 250 on the computer-based test, or 600 on the paper-based test.
    • Those who are submitting a paper-based or a computer-based TOEFL have at least 5 on the Test of Written English (TWE).
  • IELTS (Academic International English Language Testing System):
    • overall band score of at least 7.

Minimum requirements have been set by the Purdue Graduate School.
