Professor Palsberg works on programming languages and software engineering. His more than 20 journal articles are on object-oriented languages, type systems, compilers, software generators, and software evolution. He has given numerous invited talks and tutorials, and his 1994 book with Michael Schwartzbach is entitled Object-oriented Type Systems. He is or has been member of twelve program committees for international conferences, including IEEE Symposium on Logic in Computer Science, ACM Symposium on the Foundations of Software Engineering, and European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming. He is member of the editorial board of the Wiley journal Theory and Practice of Object Systems, and he was the guest editor, with Michael Schwartzbach, of a special issue of the journal on type systems. In June 1996 he organized, with Chris Hankin and Hanne Riis Nielson, the Programming Languages working group (38 members) at the ACM Workshop on Strategic Directions in Computing Research held at MIT. His research is funded by DARPA.
