Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Sciences (1995)
Ph.D., Purdue University, 1991.
Professor Helal's research interests include large-scale systems, fault-tolerance, OLTP, mobile data management, heterogeneous processing, and performance modeling. Before coming to Purdue, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. His current research deals with developing scalable data and transaction management protocols, and the tools that assess the achieved scalability. He is also conducting research on mobile data and transaction management.
Dr. Helal was an invited researcher at Hughes Research Laboratories in the summer of 1994. He has been invited to the state-of-the-art talks at the 12th Symposium on Reliable Distributed Systems. He also has been invited to present tutorials and short courses at several conferences and symposiums. He organized and co-chaired two IEEE/ACM sponsored conferences, and has co-chaired a panel on standards and interoperability.
Dr. Helal is a member of the Executive Committee of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Operating Systems and Application Environments. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the TCOS Bulletin.
